Roger & Teresa

By Teresa...
Since I am the one guests have communication with through the booking process and during a stay, I'm writing this section. Yet I depend on Roger greatly, and our inn is definitely a team effort.

So about me (Teresa)...I think I could live on chicken, broccoli, and tortilla chips. Oh, and chocolate chip cookies! I am comfortable being alone but also enjoy the company of others and greatly enjoy getting to know guests who stay at our Hummingbird Inn, Temecula. I'm most happy working on my laptop with a glass of wine, watching a good movie, and comforted by my pup laying next to me. My husband and kids are my world, and It's a kick having chickens, which I never expected to ever have, let alone unexpectedly hatching 12 baby chicks last year. We so enjoy having a place in Wine Country and feel most blessed to share our home with others.

Roger is definitely the wind beneath my wings. I get an idea and he helps to see it through. This venture is something we've so enjoyed doing together, especially our "professional development" as we learn about restaurants and wineries in the Temecula area to recommend to our guests. With a full-time position in an IT company in Irvine, the overview of the inn falls predominately on me, yet everyday is a fun day as far as I'm concerned. And pleased guests are my reward.

How Hummingbird Inn, Temecula began...
My husband and I bought the house in May of 2017. We had looked at tons of houses both by visiting Temecula and on-line. I found the house on-line and when Roger got home from work that day, I said that I had found the house! It was the first house we saw of seven on our next trip to Temecula, and it was “love at first sight.” Although there was another house we had our eyes on, the other house could not compete. We made an offer which included some chickens and one month later we started moving things in and caring for chickens!

December we had our first AirBnB guests, January a few more, February more still, then March bookings took off and since, we are often booked 4-6 weeks out with only a few availability here and there.

Our plan when we purchased was to eventually retire and enjoy until then. Yet my Roger and I are enjoying providing great stays for guests so much, we want to continue well after retirement. All house projects we tackle have our guests first in mind: will it provide a more comfortable and pleasing stay for our guests? With that question, we had the bathroom cabinets painted (originally all natural oak finish), renovated the pool and pool equipment, landscaped the back yard, and installed new air-conditioning units.

How we named the house Hummingbird Inn, Temecula...
For those who have watched Gilmore Girls, name the inn that Lorelai and Sookie partnered together to buy? Yes, the Dragonfly. Although a cute name, naming our place after an insect didn’t appeal to me, a bird perhaps, but not an insect. So after playing around with some ideas, we settled on Hummingbird Inn because my mom loves hummingbirds and has passed that love on to me. Although most of the house is decorated in a “Temeculan” feel (equestrian, rustic, western, vineyard), the entryway greets guests with a hummingbird theme. With hummingbird feeders outside the front window and backyard, we’ve attracted more hummingbirds and provided an entertaining view of their feeding and behavior.

So what’s next for Hummingbird Inn, Temecula?
In addition to providing great stays for our guests with both room bookings and entire house bookings, we are setting the groundwork to provide couples a place for a small wedding in Wine Country. We will provide a limited number per year since we want to offer our best for a couple’s special day. So excited to see this next phase unfold. Until then...

Stay in Temecula the best way...in Wine Country!!

Come! Join us for a great stay!
